NO, you're wrong! I just looked up the credits of all 3 co-creators/co-executive producers on IMDB. None of them EVER worked on Smallville. But, 2 of them did co-write & co-produce The Green Lantern film starring Ryan Reynolds that came out last year.

At Comic Con he was talking about writing for Smallville, I think he was one of the writers at one point. They brought in a lot of people to help with the DC mythology side of it over 10 years, so its possible he came on freelance

I looked them both up on IMDB. Neither of them have any writing or producer credits for any episodes of Smallville.

So Arrow is looking like a hit for the CW already.

Quote:
The CW received good ratings news for the premiere of Arrow, which drew a very big for CW standards audience of 4 million to become the network’s most-watched series premiere since flagship The Vampire Diaries. This was the CW’s largest viewership in the Wednesday 8 PM time period in three and a half years, since the May 2009 season finale of America’s Next Top Model, and the most watched CW telecast on any night in three years, since November 11 2009.

What’s more, Arrow (1.3/4 in adults 18-49, 1.1/4 in 18-34) tied NBC in the 8 PM hour in total viewers, 18-49 and 18-34. The higher 18-49 number for the superhero drama indicates a broader, older-skewing show in the vein of Nikita vs. the CW’s normal fare. Arrow also boosted its lead-out, veteran Supernatural (2.6 million, 1.0/3), which jumped 40% in viewers from it's season premiere last week.
Arrow Ratings Strong in CW Series' Debut, Nashville OK

The CW might have found their Smallville replacement.

Here's a good non-spoiler review of the Pilot for people are avoiding this show because they were disappointed by Smallville:

Review: Arrow S01E01 – Pilot
October 14, 2012 By Darth Kriss

When I first heard that The CW was doing a Green Arrow TV show just like the way they did a “Superman” show with Smallville, I was nervous. I was never heavy into Smallville, watching episodes sporadically but what bothered me with that show was what bothered most people (even fans): Clark not in the cape until the end of Season 11 and watered down villains. So obviously if they can’t get Superman right, what hope does Green Arrow have? Then I saw the first trailer for the new show with Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen and I was sold. The trailer had a completely different vibe than Smallville had in its 11 seasons. A couple of things grabbed my attention:

1. Recasting Oliver Queen. Instead of going with Justin Hartley who played Queen on Smallville, they cast Stephen Amell and the character looked more serious and mature

2. It was clear that Ollie would be in the green hood starting from day one.

3. It seemed more mature and grittier than Smallville

So I was sold. I’ve been telling folks that I was going to check it out and give it a chance. Well I missed the premiere but was able to catch it this weekend and I’m so glad I did. The Arrow pilot was better than anything I saw from the episodes of the 11 seasons of Smallville.

Now before I go into this review, let me put a few things out there now. Even though I’m a comicbook fan, I’m not a huge DC guy. I know enough about the major characters but outside of Batman & Superman, my knowledge is limited. So this isn’t going to be a review from a person who is nitpicking all the details and screaming about how “they messed up this origin and blah blah blah.” I’m mainly looking at whether the story was good and if I was entertained. And with the Arrow pilot I can answer “yes” to both.

Here’s what I enjoyed about the pilot:

1. I mentioned it earlier but Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen is huge step up from Justin Hartley. Remember, we’re talking CW acting here so no way he’s putting on an award winning performance, however he does a pretty convincing job. To be honest, I thought the acting was fairly solid all around. I wasn’t annoyed by any of the characters which surprised me because I was expecting to be annoyed by the interactions between Oliver and Laurel but I wasn’t. This could change as the season goes on but as of right now it works.

2. Maybe it’s just me but I noticed the influence the success Nolan’s Batman trilogy had on making this show. I actually got a Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins vibe from Queen during this episode. It wasn’t too similar that it made me think “Oh they’re ripping this from Begins” but it was close enough that I actually liked it. And you know what? It’s a smart decision. They’ve said they’re not going to have any super powers on the show and its going to be more reality based. What Nolan did with Batman is the perfect blueprint for it so I’m not going to complain if they use that as a model. You couldn’t ask for anything better to be honest.

3. The action was pretty damn good. I was actually shocked. I’m actually wondering if they can keep this up to be honest (judging from clips I’ve seen, the answer is yes). There were some pretty good hand-to-hand fight scenes in this episode. You get see Queen using different types of arrows, and fighting up close and personal. I was really impressed with the quality of the choreography.

4. I liked how they let this story unfold this episode. Other shows probably would have spent half the episode establishing Queen before the island/shipwreck as a douche and then ending with him just getting home. This does the opposite. It starts with him getting rescued and they piece together the before with well timed flashbacks. It allowed or more focus on the “now” and I think more action. And I also think it leaves room for them to revisit what exactly happened on the island in future episodes.

Overall I really liked this episode. I think it was a great first step in setting up the characters and the season. I’m pretty sure hardcore comic book fans of Green Arrow will find plenty to complain about (His sister’s nickname is Speedy, I’m sure that will be one of many complaints). But to me it’s like when I say I really love The Walking Dead TV show and someone chimes in about how the comic books are better. Listen, I don’t care. If it makes for great TV, I will watch it. And it seems like for everything they do that differs from the comics, they have something that is the same (Check out the pictures of Deathstroke). Arrow is definitely worth checking out.

4/5
