What do you expect from next gen consoles in terms of graphics?
With reports building everyday on the new Xbox and PS4, I just wanna get a feel what everyone else is expecting. Video game graphics have advanced immensely in such a short period of time. Its now been 7 years since the current gen consoles dropped. Alot of time in the technology world.
Do ya'll think games with graphics as real as this will be possible on the next gen consoles?

Spec bumps, a little better but same ****. They gonna try to make this "all media hub" bullshit and get further and further away from gaming until gaming will be an afterthought in future "consoles"
Weird that people are always so pessimistic about future tech eventhough looking backwards we see how future tech is so much superior to what was available in the past.
I think we'll see a big leap in graphics but not as big as will come in the gen to follow this one.
Beyond brute force computational applications, Exaflop and commodity Petaflop computing will almost certainly allow for the creation of intelligent robots and software agents, perhaps as brilliant as a trained circus dog, an advanced primate, a five year old child, or even more depending on advancements in computer learning.
It would allow for the real-time rendering of computer-generated imagery from today's biggest and most expensive Hollywood blockbuster films (or even better) in virtual reality or virtual worlds for the average citizen. These types of games and fully-immersive artificial realities would make the most advanced XBOX 360 or Playstation 3 first-person game look about as sophisticated as PONG.
Essentially, we're talking about the delivery of The Matrix as a commercial software product.
So in 8 years when petaflop computing will be available at laptop prices, we're looking at real time video game graphics that are equivalent to what top Hollywood movies are now spending millions of dollars on while using farms of supercomputers.
Can't wait to be able to jack into the Matrix and play games like Halo or GTA.

Theyll have matrix farms for people to go plug in and live on fluids while they experience their own reality behind some VR plugged into their neural senses. Imagine, being the God of your own world and no one believes in you.
it's going to look like how games look now on a high end gaming PC. Nothing new that I haven't seen. Seriously I bet you BF3 on Ultra/High is what it'll look like which is impressive but not really "WOW" to acclimated PC gamers.

Has this been the case in terms of previous gens? Isn't the argument that because the console is a closed system, that even if it has specs equivalent to high end PC gaming right now, that it'll be able to get more outta the system and thus produce better graphics?
I think your selling the next gen systems short. Current gen consoles though nowhere near as advanced as PC gaming has not looked flabby and sick in comparison. Games like Uncharted on PS3 look comparable to the best in PC until the last couple of years.

the 'closed system' thing is true to an extent. but given the price-point they're going for, it's not gonna have "specs equivalent to high end PC gaming right now". on the PC side you can spend $1000+ on a gpu (graphics card) alone. no amount of magic is gonna get a $3-400 console to compete with that

I honestly agree with this to an extent...my main concern is I hope that the variety in games is similar to the gen before this current one...cause that has always been consoles advantage over pc imo. ..and the gap was more closed this gen than it shouldve been in that area imo...
I think people gonna be shock. Peools state oh the best GPU on PC is already bdtter but they forget no developers really develop with that GPU in mind.
Edit: Galaxy and typing not my friend lol look at this shyt.

pretty much
I'm just thinking about what has been done so far with hardware from 06 and just can't wait to see what developers are gonna be able to do with hardware that is 7 years more advanced.
***** gonna be shocked by how far graphics are gonna advance this gen. We're not at photorealism quite yet. But we should be there by the time consoles come out in 2020 and beyond.
