The 1986 Aquaman miniseries (where he got his first new costume); Peter David's run on his earlier solo book; Will Pfeiffer's run on the same title; the Grant Morrison depiction of Aquaman in JLA; the current Geoff Johns run on his solo book; any episodes of the Justice League cartoon that featured Aquman all prove that Aquaman is a cool character with a shitty stigma attached to him.
I blame the Super Friends cartoon.

Aquaman is a rich and powerful ruler of the Oceans.

He has Super strength comparable to The Thing and durability to the point of being Bullet Proof (not even Wonder Woman can say this).

He also has lower level telepathy, which is an aspect of his talking to fish power.

And he has probably more resources than anyone on the DCU, Bruce is just a business man, Aquaman IS a Business, man.

i know aquaman can survive deep inner space pressure, and at one point he could touch people and instantly kill them by drying them out...seems pretty beastly to me

Always thought it was weird that aquaman gets shitted on while namor gets a pass they're basically the same character

His left hand has magical properties. He can dehydrate anyone he touches with it, killing them instantly; the ability to change the shape and density of the hand; the ability to shoot jets of scalding water; healing abilities; the ability to create portals into mystical dimensions, etc.

He is a much more sinister character. He can spike you water, give you diarrhea from it, then make your toilet stop working.

If that isn't torture I don't know what is.
