Complex Mag interview with Fredo Santana (Speaks about Muslim Faith)
pretty interesting interview, beyond the usual hip-hop interview questions they ask him about his personal beliefs and he sheds some light on what makes chiraq the land of savages, but how he keeps his faith
Quote:
Complex: So Fredo, a lot of our readers would be surprised to know you're a devout Muslim. Has this only been recently, or has Islam always been in your life?
Fredo: [pauses to hit his marijuana filled blunt reflectively] You know, man...it's really always been in me, on folks them. As a shorty I used to see the ****** on the corner with the beards and the robes and the lil' hats, and we would laugh like 'Ay man, on BD, look at them goofies.' But as I done got older I realize the pivotal role Allah plays in my life.
Complex: So as a Muslim, you don't find a problem in the lifestyle you lead?
Fredo: Don't get me wrong bro, I love Islam man. But out here in Chiraq we don't got it like they do.
Complex: What do you mean?
Fredo: Like...*****, we ain't got no Mecca. [laughs] How you want some ****** from Southside Englewood to make a pilgrimage across the other side of the world? We can't do all that over here man. [SD joins in laughter from other room] Nah man, over here there's none of that. Lamron is our Mecca.
Complex: Understandable. Surely you have ways of showing your faith, though?
Fredo: Yea, no doubt. No doubt. Even though we drillin' in the field, we still make Salat. [laughs] You know in my hood we Die 5 so there aint no Five Pillars. We too busy eating on the block to be fasting. That's 300 ****. We don't do that there. And I already told y'all about that pilgrim ****. Nah.
