Just because you are responsible and can handle a gun, doesn't mean that everybody is.
Like I said I don't advocate banning guns. But our current gun laws and regulations are a joke, and they need to be changed
I agree with you. I was heated so blinded to the fact that not all states have the same policies as mine. I'm from MA and you have to complete X amount of hours of training including knowing the laws to carry, use, etc. Also, you have X amount of hours on the range and must know everything about the gun and pass a test. I agree that guns should have training and mental requirements in order to purchase them. However, I do not advocate banning ANY gun. Proper training and due diligence is more than enough to prepare the average citizen to own a gun.
How about we get some real afforable medicine in this country so people can afford to get their mental health issues sorted out without fear of stigma and financial capability?
The law is the law.
Look at what our current government has done to keep us safe in the last 12 years. We got the PATRIOT Act. We have old ladies being forced to take off their adult diapers by the TSA. We have indefinite detention legalized. We have had several internet censorship bills proposed to "protect" us.
Now you want to run to the government begging them to take away another right?
I know emotions are high, hell I'm a parent. But emotional time is not a time for a debate centered on reason.
If you want to have an assault rifle join the military. Automatic weapons are illegal unless you have a license. I think the Assault Rifle Ban(94') expired last year? That really only had to do with barrel length and magazine size from what I remember.
Mental Illness, anyone with scripts that are known to cause suicide and play with peoples mental states you shouldn't have a gun! Treat guns like they're cars and everything that entails.
I'll think more about it. Haven't read about what happened today I just woke up.
gun control????--nah...things would be straight if white people controlled themselves...

Right Mental Health needs to be dealt with. It's swept under the rug, it's a joke for Jay Leno and them. But how do we do it? When does it start because you can see this in kids as young as 13

I honestly don't know man.
I think improving the access to health care might help. I really do.
But at the end of the day, no gun banning, video game banning, health care expansion will ever suffice for parental and family love.
I've never heard anyone say "I need protection from my government" in real life as justification for owning a gun. Only fringe lunatics say things like that or maybe the idiots on here.
And by the way you bring up some good points. But I know you'll get berated by the gun lobby in here.
And whoever said our founders set up the second amendment so the government would be afraid of their people is wrong. It was set up to arm militias to fight the British.
