yeah, lets assemble the team to fact-check Chris Rock's political consistency
this thread is retarded...
Exactly. Dude tells jokes for a living, and will most likely never be a politician. Nobody is giving his words credence except people who want to make an argument out of it.

It's funny how Chris Rock being a comedian doesn't play a factor when he's advocating for political agendas, especially agendas in which some of you endorse, but when he says something stupid, well now he's off limits because he's a comedian.
What's a comedian doing on a panel advocating gun control laws?

*crickets*
Limo Liberals fall back on that "he's just a comedian" motto quiet often.. I hear it with Bill Mahr apologists all the time..
And wasn't Al Franken "just a comedian"
If these guys are just comedians why should we ever take anything they say seriously?

So, his celebrity adds some sort of credibility to this plan?
But I was told I shouldn't criticize what he said because he's only a comedian and shouldn't be taken seriously. I was told I am wasting my time fact checking his consistency and credibility.

I don't think he adds any credibility to the plan, but my opinions on worth of celebrity endorsements are besides the point
you asked what he was doing "on a panel". I just pointed out that he's just a celebrity showing his support at a press conference. he wasn't there to participate in any serious discussion on gun control. he pretty much said that in so many words, made half a joke, the people around him smiled and found it funny, and everyone here wants to critique it literally, like he really thinks Obama is his "boss" and his "daddy"

It was a horrible joke, politics ain't a game, I don think he meant any harm, but if I was running that campaign I would pull him to the side and say exactly what I'm saying now, that its an awful choice of words becuase of the connotations of boss and dad in reference to the president
on the street and everyday life what he said is irrelevant, in politics it's very relevant and it was stupid
Welcome to politics

You shouldn't take anything said by some one who gets paid to say outlandish/offensive/racy thing seriously.
Whats really at play is the fear that because he has a platform, people will listen, and even worse, agree.

Well when they make statements that are poignant and based in truth (which Rock has done in the past)then sure you can take them seriously..This just isn't one of those times right?...
It just seems like the whole "he's just a comedian, actor, rapper" defense is only used to excuse these guys when they get called out for saying dumb ****...
Meanwhile these guys are becoming political taste makers and are carrying water for the democratic party...
Ronald Reagan was "just an actor" at one point....Celebs are the most powerful and influential people in this country....
Agreed, but calling a comedian stupid is always going to come across as
I guess its just a political advantage.
I think in this particular instance though, you cant take him seriously... not literally at least.

Chris Rock has been flabby and sick as of late. And I don't mean his appearance, I mean the things that come out of his mouth. His analysis/thoughts, comedic or not, have been kinda meh and even
There was a time when everything he said left you
Not anymore.
