Look at all the states surrounding Illinois, and their lack of gun control laws and heavy gun shows and how easy it is to get a gun out of the surrounding state. Then realize your sarcasm failed.
The issue is the pathetic sentencing laws. There is strong gun control without actual lengthy sentencing laws ALONG with the lax gun laws around the surrounding states of Illinois. Hence why this needs to be fixed on a federal level. Michael Ward the guy reported to have killed Hadiya Pendleton yestreday, when arrested was said to have multiple multiple violations and with his most recent one involving a weapon he received just 2 years probation. It's like taking away your kid's ipad as punishment but telling them "you can keep your smartphone".
People need to reallly stop with that annoying *** "Chicago has the strongest gun laws" sarcasm because its getting played out especially since they do not bring up what I just did.
There are folks out there getting longer probation than actual SENTENCING

Its multiple issues all together; No one ever said it was just one thing. We are just trying to focus on the main thing.

If the House/Senate are both working on Bipartisan bills now to make gun trafficking a felony(no it isn't a felony already). how will that "not fix anything"

Your argument ignores the fact that making it harder for criminals to get weapons does make a difference. Second, you improperly point out that we have the largest prison population in the world as somehow being indicative of the fact that prison sentences have no deterring effect on gun trafficking. It also ignores the fact that most people in prison are non-violent drug offenders, which does not involve gun trafficking and does not tell as anything about the deterring effects of tougher gun laws, checks, etc. Basically, your entire post is based on tangential relationships as a means to disregard and ignore actually analyzing what gun laws may do and to veer the discussion to strictly cultural issues. While ignoring the fact that an issue may have more than one cause and in this case it is obvious that access to weapons is one of those causes. Each of those causes requires a different solution to have the cumulative effect of decreasing gun violence. France, and many parts of Europe have downtrodden people and often destructive counter cultures as well, but they don't have our level of gun violence because it is not as easy to access it.
You're inadvertently arguing for a self-fulfilling prophecy of failure. That's pretty much my only post on the subject.

hire more cops
mandatory curfews for teens under 18 at 9pm
enforce stop and frisk throughout city
fine all parents of kids who do not attend school $100 dollars a day without a valid excuse or doctors note
from pre-k to 12th grade enforce school uniforms in all public schools
Its nothing Obama can do to stop guns, kids, and Chicago. Its their decision to make, let them make it. Time will pass and improvement WILL be shown. Just give them space.
