Ethnicity is a subset of humanity. Race is bullshyt invented by 'White people'. 'Black' isn't a shade of skin, but a type of culture. No human on this planet has black skin unless they are dead or suffering from gangrene.

no black people have ever called themselves african, african is roman word that referred to north africa, it had nothing to do with black people of west africa, or souther africa where "we" are from, eventually the name got stuck to the whole continent, but african, negro, *****, ****** etc are all names that were given to us by other people, those arent are real names
