ah finally, a real religious thread

one where you have to defend a specific idea instead of a generalized one

and you can't hide behind religion vs agnostic / atheist....you actually HAVE to pick a stance and stick by it....*gasp*

and *gasp* you actually have to come to the realization that religious doctrines are articles of philosophy that aren't ONLY discussed as feelings of belief

I went to a catholic school from K to 5th grade.

We used to wear the monk robes on Friday when the grades had to alternate with the service.....

**** was all ritual from walking down the middle to grabbing the bible for the pastor...it was funny because on Sunday I went to a baptist church and would see ladies catching the holy ghost and screaming....

Well i know as a Christian, it's BS. Love having this argument with my uncles and aunts who are life time Catholics. OUtside of "that's how It's been done" they really can't back it scripturally, in fact it flies in the face of most of the bible.

The thing is this...
Catholics are not to pray TO Mary or the saints (THEM), but to ask THEM to pray to God on their behalf...which there is nothing technically wrong with. The issue comes in where people, not really knowing what they are doing or saying or in some cases believing take dogma (asking for prayers) and transform it into a new practice (asking THEM for salvation.)

Ideally and in actuality you don't have to pray to the saints and mary, it does no extra good, or harm, unless you transform it into worship, then it's harm.

Pray to JC, can't go wrong there.

As an aside I wish the Catholics eradicated the followers of other forms of Christianity. I guess they didn't have it in them in the end.

But he did put it about as plainly as you can say it. The idea is the Jesus is God separate but the same along with the holy ghost these three entities are the Trinity.

Jesus was the only go through needed between god and man, which is why protestant denominations do not use other humans to send their prayers to god
