Exclamation Live Podcasting Guide

This is a guide on how to stream a podcast. You will something like Skype to connect and talk to the other people on the Podcast. This will show you how to make your computer broadcast all audio being played or heard on your computer (Skype, iTunes, your mic..) and setup Mixlr.

1) Sign Up With http://mixlr.com - You can use your Twitter or use your email address.

2) Download Mixlr Software
https://mixlr.com/get/Mixlr-1.3.2.exe

3) Install & Run Mixlr

4) Sign In & Click Setup Broadcast

5) Right Click on the Speaker in your Taskbar & Click Recording Devices

6) Right Click Anywhere in the Box and Make Sure Show Disabled Devices IS Checked

7) Right Click on Stereo Mix and Click Enable

8) Now Go Back to the Sound Screen and Right Click on your Microphone and Select Properties

9) Click the Listen Tab and make sure the Listen to this Device Box is Checked

10) Now Go Back to the Mixlr Setup Screen and Click the Red "Change" Text

11) Click the top Drop Down Box and Select the Stereo Mix Option

12) Save Settings and Click Broadcast Now.

Your Now Streaming Live to the Web Address Provided in the Box. Click the Link to Copy it.

You can also easily record your podcast with a program like Audition or the free program Audacity. The computer is already setup to record the output from your speakers & your microphone so it will record the entire podcast and be ready for editing.

I'd recommend testing everything out prior to going live.

I will when i get home. I set up my mixlr account. I set up the input and output and it knew that i had a logitech usb mic but next to it it said silent so it was not registering any audio that i was putting into it.

You don't want to set it to your microphone anyways. You want to set the Mixlr input to "Stereo Mix" or else people will only be able to hear you

I see. I'll try this when i get home. What do you reccomend for setting up a call center/switch board type of setup

*ok we're gonna take some callers*
Conference some cats in, etc.

I'm not really sure about that. I've never skyped before but I think its possible that you can call 1 person at a time in addition to whoever is on with skype. you might be able to do something with google voice, i think they allow 4 callers.

It would probably just be easiest to just ask people who want to "call in" to hop on skype and you could just add them that way. calling in with a phone would require other programs and would be more complicated, not to mention prank calls and **** like that.

im not a podcast expert so others might know of an alternative

the problem is that when I do this, I hear my own voice in my speakers which is very disorienting. Also, audacity isn't recording the skype call, only my voice.
