what software did you use?
After Effects CS5, it's not that hard honestly. If you're familiar with photoshop, there are many similar things.

EDIT : I was not that satisfied of the result because Kubrick's zoom out wasn't linear therefore it was hard to have the smileys following perfectly. If you watch more closely, you can see that they are moving at times
